Times are good for Mak the parrot, Scrubby the goat, Carmello the chameleon and the rest of the wildlife that inhabit a tropical island. Their day-to-day routine gets shaken up when a mysterious creature washes up on shore. He's a sailor named Robinson Crusoe, and he's the only human survivor of a terrible storm that destroyed his ship. As the animals get to know their peculiar new guest, they find him to be a useful ally when two conniving cats try to seize control of their exotic paradise.

Critics Consensus

The Wild Life uses its classic source material as a half-hearted springboard into a colorfully animated but essentially empty experience that only the youngest of viewers will find at all entertaining.

Robinson Crusoe: The Wild Life is a handbook of mistakes -- although I can't say whether the problem was lack of budget, time, or simply judgment.

Kids might be amused, but adults will find the jokes weak, the narrative bleak and little to pass the time between animal chase scenes.

contemporary relevance doesn't make this movie any more interesting. It just floats by on flat characters and predictable gags, a functional distraction for kids who are bound to forget it as soon as they hit the next episode of Dora The Explorer.

Not a travesty, some small ones may find delight with the cute hedgehogs and company, but it is lazy.

I personally would rather watch this film than a lazy unambitious effort like Ice Age: Collision Course but that's just me.

This was an impressive film visually for the independent Belgian company but the story unfortunately falls flat.

Less should have been spent on the animation budget and more on the writing because, while the animation is great, several plot elements are a bit janky and unbelievable. This is especially true regarding the antagonists’ motivation (a band of cats who are out to kill Robinson Crusoe because he stopped them from killing a chicken one time) and the setting of the story (an island inhabited by only 7 animals all of different species). I think the nonsensical plot points COULD HAVE worked had the film not taken itself so seriously and adopted the more self aware humor style of The Emperor’s New Groove. But even apart from that, this movie is just boring and uninspired.

If you sit in the island long enough, you may go find out if doing this was a BAD idea

The artists did a good job with the graphics. I am not sure who is the intended audience. It might entertain a 4 or 5 year old, but would be too scary for them. Flat, unoriginal, and uninspired.
