Meek housewife Thelma (Geena Davis) joins her friend Louise (Susan Sarandon), an independent waitress, on a short fishing trip. However, their trip becomes a flight from the law when Louise shoots and kills a man who tries to rape Thelma at a bar. Louise decides to flee to Mexico, and Thelma joins her. On the way, Thelma falls for sexy young thief J.D. (Brad Pitt) and the sympathetic Detective Slocumb (Harvey Keitel) tries to convince the two women to surrender before their fates are sealed.

A great female empowerment story of two best friends fed up of the abusive men in their lives and heading off on a road trip to rediscover themselves with a dark turn as they go on the run from the law. The movie is most famous for its iconic ending when they drive off the cliff in one last ride of glory. But the rest of the film still holds up thanks to the tight script, Ridley Scott's excellent direction, and the great performances. Susana Sarandon and Geena Davis share excellent chemistry as the two leads and I really loved their friendship persevering every ordeal they encounter. I enjoyed the catchy country rock soundtrack. The film becomes a tense renegade road trip story that keeps you hooked waiting to see how Thelma and Louise will escape the law. The film has solid feminist themes about the male gaze and men's tendency for possessive entitlement keeping women on edge. The final police chase ending is tense and iconic. It's a great buddy crime dramedy and holds up very well.

This film shows us the dangers of letting women run wild...and frankly, I'm all for it! AEB says: The ladies took some extreme measures to avoid punishment, but I can't say I would do anything different that they did! Also, Brad Pitt can be my cowboy any day!
