What to Know

Critics Consensus

Consistently unnerving as it cycles through a series of shorts that are more treat than trick, V/H/S Halloween is one of the most purely enjoyable cassettes in the franchise yet.

This horror bonanza, the eighth instalment in the V/H/S anthology series, is a mixed bag, with some very high highs and regrettably poor lows. Go to Full Review

It may well be the franchise’s best of the decade. Go to Full Review

[Its] vignettes are uneven and occasionally repetitive and yet, at their best, deliver the sort of macabre mood and mayhem that make the series an enduring spooky-season pleasure. Go to Full Review

V/H/S/Halloween is an inconsistent but generally entertaining addition to the franchise, with some exceedingly terrifying moments, a reasonable amount of dread, and periodic moments of morbid humor. Go to Full Review

A mostly wonderful collection of short works ranging from the effective to the ludicrous. Go to Full Review

Despite having a seemingly franchise-friendly theme, V/H/S/Halloween is one of the weaker films in the series. Go to Full Review

Idodeclareindeed B @Idodeclareindeed 1d The only good VHS movie. I've tried the other ones, there's one or maybe two decent skits in each - decent is also generous. This one was consistently good throughout - some were actually scary, almost all of them are big swings/super odd in a good way, one is genuinely disturbing (in a way that these vhs horror movie types are supposed to be) so I'm very pleasantly surprised. Overall though you kind of have to have watched at least one other one to get an idea as to what to expect with a V/H/S movie See more Steve G @RT40703972 5d An element of realism is a crucial component to a found footage film. This movie falls considerably short in this area. If you are a fan of the genre, by all means watch it! Set expectations low! See more Darrin G. @realwildchild76 Mar 8 The eighth V/H/S anthology series is absolute bonkers. Definitely one of the more grotesque and offensive of the series but dipped in some dark humor still.
The wrap around “Diet Phantasma” is the soda taste test from hell (literally) and is both gross and funny.
“Coochie Coochie Coo” is one of the more disturbing horror monsters think Barbarian but more leaky.
“Ut Supra Sic Infra” if you don’t mind the subtitles to get through this segment it might turn out to be an eye  gauging experience.
“Kid Print” is one of the more controversial segments of this series so far dealing with not any type of paranormal but an actual kid serial killer. Not for everybody.
“Fun Size” is an odd but funny take on what happens when you trick or treat and take more than one out of the bowl.
“Home Haunt” is my easily favorite about a home haunt gone terribly wrong. See more Daniel P @WhateverI Mar 4 Difficult to watch in one sitting. They just loaded down on the gore with very flimsy stories with really easy plots. Seemed like they really didn't put much into this one. See more Danielle C. @DaniELLIE Feb 25 Definitely awful in comparison to the other VHS movies. The acting was particularly bad See more Aaron S. @Aaron0309 Feb 18 This movie has some interesting ideas, but most are poorly executed. The pacing is slow, and the movie is boring. Overall, it doesn’t have much going for it and stands out as one of the weakest entries in the V/H/S franchise. See more Read all reviews
