I thought that friendship between the main character and his best friend was comforting and believable. The three villains were easily detestable through both through both terror and outright vulgarity. The karmic comedic juxtaposition turns an everyday nightmare into a surreal rags-to-riches morbid fairytale experience that has a happy ending. Due to the challenging subject material, the reputation for it being "off-putting", "inappropriate" or "outright gross" are completely justified. This is not and will not be appropriate for all audiences. The wikipedia summary is more less accurate, leaving out or exaggerating details here and there. Criticism : the dialogue feels a little archaic at moments, as if the writer was writing for the 1890s instead of the 1990s. I would watch it again. Bryan Johnson did a fantastic job with this film. It's still one of my favorite View Askew films to date (Sorry Kevin).I don't like spoilers in reviews so I'll just say if you like gritty well written Indy flix this should definitely be on your list and you should come back and write a review because F*** this current audience score.
