What to Know

Critics Consensus

Stranding Ice Cube in an inept screensaver with wall-to-wall product placement, War of the Worlds will make audiences consider giving peace a chance instead.

To some, War of the Worlds is a branded empty package; to others, it’s a sci-fi guilty pleasure treasure that proves the old adage right.

The plot is ludicrous, the filmmaking sloppy, the performances disconnected. It’s a true desktop disaster. Go to Full Review

Don't let the noise fool you. This corporation-coddling remake is so unparseable you'll actively wish it were worse -- or just over. Go to Full Review

The screenplay by Kenny Golde and Marc Hyman gets overcomplicated because they’re desperately reaching for something to spice up Ice Cube staring at a computer at his desk. Go to Full Review

Where other films built around screens like Searching and Missing were able to make what could be a bit of gimmick work, War of the Worlds is just a dull disaster from start to finish. Go to Full Review

War of the Worlds attempts to boldly adapt H.G. Wells’ sci-fi classic for the modern age, the way that your digestive system boldly adapts a five-course dinner into excrement. Go to Full Review

This was painful. It was boring, had terrible graphics and performances, and felt overlong despite being less than an hour and a half. Go to Full Review

Merecidisimo los Razzies 2026 See more Rowan P @RT58184787 3d Calling this a 'film' is an insult to the medium. It is without a doubt the worst movie of the decade, if not the century. The visuals are so abysmal it looks worse than an amateur indie project shot by a middle schooler See more Seth F @RT94945584 4d This has to be one of the most putrid steaming piles of poop that has ever been plopped out of the human brain. This horrific visual experience gave me testicular cancer which in turn caused my wiener to fall off, this so called "film" ruined my life. If I had one thing to say to the group of people behind this dirty diaper I’d say "f*ck you" I’ve lost everything because of this. Ice Cube’s line delivery feels like an AI deep fake. All the acting and visuals in this are laughably awful it’s almost as if I’m watching a never ending YouTube short. I’ll never understand what went through their minds that made them think this would be a good idea. And the plot is brain dead aliens eat our data like wtf. I fear we humans are devolving, please don’t waste your time stay as far away as possible please! See more Yeiden N @RT90722100 6d it made no sense and it was a hard watch only people that like it are sci-fi fanatics and the people who wrote it and my mom cause makes no sense like I said and trying to add ice cube wont make the movie better and the plot was so predictable See more Sam A @RT78318624 6d What were they thinking See more Ryan F. @RyanPF Mar 14 The movie was fun to watch. I would likely watch it again. It had a different style of directing, filming & editing. It was decent for a movie made during COVID. See more Read all reviews
