Five years after suddenly disappearing from the Manitoba town where he grew up, Will Morrison (Lukas Haas) turns up at the family home of his lifelong best friend, Daniel Bloom (Adam Scott). Daniel's well-meaning mother (Wendy Crewson) and father (R.H. Thomson) call both their son and Will's ex-wife, Maggie (Molly Parker), to relay the good news, but soon enough the truth behind Will's departure comes out, and long-held secrets and resentments must be addressed.

Don't expect much. Just let it unfold. If you try and figure it out, you'll ruin it. To enjoy it, you just have to let wash over you at its own pace. Great characters, a slowly unfolding story about confronting the past in a stunning wooded lake house in the great Canadian outdoors, with some fun revelations delivered really well, even laugh out loud well, more than once. Great for a mellow day, sipping some fine wine, and unwinding..

Même si le film m'a profondément ému à certains moments, j'ai la ferme impression qu'il ne fait que ressasser certaines étapes importantes du drame cinématographique. Certes, les personnages sont sacrément attachants, certes, l'histoire déchire le coeur, mais j'ai encore l'impression de revoir ces mille et une histoires d'amour que l'on revoit mille et une fois dans une vie. Par contre, j'ai comme l'impression que ce serait sacrément ton genre de film Mate, mais je peux me tromper...

Congratulations, this movie is added to the VERY short list of films I've turned off. Best part is, I rented this for FREE at the Library, and yet I didn't need to waste another 45 minutes. Based on the cast and the premise it looked interesting, but the whole thing feels so forced, contrived, like it's trying soo hard to be an indie darling it forgets to actually be full of believability. One friend sleeps with the other's wife, the other disappears for 5 years, comes back, and they treat him like he's the one who acted poorly. then they're all together again, and the friend starts making out with the wife again, and when he gets mad, the wife punches him...??? WTF. Stupidity...too bad, as it was a nice cottage they were shooting it at, but we couldn't overlook how completely hard it was trying to be funny when it should have been serious, but serious when it was supposedly funny... Don't say I didn't warn you
