It’s a contemplative and introspective film that uses the body-swapping gimmick to explore growing up and experiencing life from another perspective, and it celebrates how connections to culture and family shape who we are. Go to Full Review

Sustains an aching adolescent yearning that plays like a Ryusuke Hamaguchi drama with an animated teen cast. Go to Full Review

Kisha G 09/30/2021 Oh 😲 my 🥺 GOSH! 😭 I see why it was the highest grossing film in Japan in 2016! 😭🥰 Absolutely LOVED IT and was definitely wiping away tears by the end! 😭 See more ang T @notangelali 5d i genuinely didn’t like this movie at all. the visuals and nature scenes were beautiful, and the animation was clearly high quality, but that’s honestly where it ends for me. the actual story felt weak and kind of lazy. the whole comet and body-switching concept didn’t feel meaningful or well-developed, it just felt random and thrown in to force a plot. instead of building something real, it relied on a gimmick, and that made it hard to take seriously. the pacing also didn’t help. it felt rushed in some places and dragged in others, so the emotional moments didn’t really land. i never felt fully connected to what was happening, and the relationship didn’t feel entertaining the ending especially was disappointing. it didn’t feel satisfying or impactful, just kind of flat after everything that happened. compared to films by Hayao Miyazaki, which usually have stronger emotional buildup and more grounded storytelling the plot and execution made it feel boring and underwhelming to me. See more Leo S Jun 28 Your Name is without doubt one of the best anime’s ever made. I didn’t understand why this movie was so popular when I first watched it because the story was extremely confusing, but after watching it a second time… This movie made me tear up. Not only is it about saving one specific life, but it’s also about saving hundreds of other lives. The visuals I think are one of the best I’ve ever seen, the characters and their relationships with each other is spectacular, this movie does a really good job at explaining it’s story. Absolutely must see, it’s a masterpiece and up there with A Silent Voice.
