See more Clint E Jun 14 Woman on the Run stars Ann Sheridan, based on the book Man on the Run & that’s where the big difference between this and other noir gems lies. Spoiler alert: Sheridan’s performance isn’t the typical noir femme fatale; it’s a completely different, modern female leading role. Her performance evens eclipses veteran Dennis O’Keefe’s, which is outstanding. Sheridan is perhaps best known for “Nora Prentiss,” and I’d like to see more of her work. The 1950 film has been described as “Hitchcockian” due to its terrific pacing, a rollercoaster of suspense and uncertainty, not to mention its climaxing twist. Director Norman Foster (Kiss the Blood off my Hands, Journey into Fear) really uses every second of the film’s 77 meager minutes; nothing’s wasted. “Woman on the Run,” doesn’t accurately describe the plot either. The woman in question isn’t running at all but instead is searching for her husband- a man she seems to have given up on. “Love’s Never Really Lost” doesn’t have a noirish ring to it though. This movie isn’t well known, but that needs to change. The unusual for its time theme, plot twists, superb acting, and locations separate this from the noir pack. See more Alfa W 11/26/2024 Defintetly worth seeing, classic film noir with unexpected character plot twists and turns. Very good. Also shows SFO in the 1950 as a historical record of the time. See more Martin B 01/09/2023 One of the best of this era in my view. Great plot, good actors full of twists and turns you really never know where it will end up. A wife that doesn't really know her husband trying to put together clues the husband gives her in order to catch up to him that only come back in snipets. All the while we know a supposed ally is the bad guy trying to catch up as well. Not formula at all very refreshing. Title is misleadin but that's about the only thing wrong with this oldie but goodie. See more 07/31/2021 Woman on the Run (Streaming on Multiple platforms including Youtube) but make sure you see it in the original BW and not the poorly colorized version. Is a film noir with a female lead and a sharp screenplay and witty dialog. The budget was modest and they struggled in some places with the filming limitations of the time (notably in the final act).
