Brooks is a delightful storyteller, as quick with punchlines as he was in his prime. Go to Full Review

We may know Mel Brooks as well as we can know anyone who lives, for us, primarily on screens. But “The 99-Year-Old Man!” is a good reminder that when it comes to kind and talented people, there’s always more to see. Go to Full Review

Beyond the lore, the documentary also delves into Brooks' personal life... This approach humanizes the man without diminishing his greatness, showing a man who, at 99, still understands laughter as a bridge to connection and joy. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

What sets The 99 Year Old Man! apart from the current glut of entertainment icon docs is that Brooks' comedic ideas were incendiary 60 years ago and they're just as incendiary now, even though the culture has evolved dramatically in that time. Go to Full Review

The commentary by dozens of admirers and career-highlight TV and movie snippets are great of course, nostalgic but purposeful, meaningful in the context of Brooks’ life and influence on showbiz. Go to Full Review

Esther N @Invisigoth 20h This is one of the best documentaries I've seen, both revealing and touching. Mel Brooks, with all odds against him, rose to fame by shining a light on bigotry, mysoginy, and government corruption with humor and intelligence. His movies never spoke down to anyone and, while controversial to some, pulls back the curtain on current events. Season 1 begins with Brooks' early life growing up in a Jewish community and his connection to the Catskills Borscht Belt. He worked with some of the best and brightest in the business but faced challenges in getting noticed until Carl Reiner recorded the 2000 Year-Old Man with him. It wasn't the breakthrough he needed but put him on the map. Season 1 takes through his earliest works with Your Show of Shows up to The Producers and Blazing Saddles. Great interviews including his sons, Gene Wilder, and Rob Reiner :'( It's a must see for any fan of Brooks, his movies, and the comedians he inspired. See more Robert M @Rmart0101 21h What a great deep dive into Mel Brooks career and life. The Reiner cameos are heartwarming and sad. See more Sarah H. @DalekSarah 2d I'm a huge Mel Brooks fan and this was such an inspiring documentary. "Rhetoric does not get you anywhere... But if you can bring these people down with comedy, they stand no chance." See more rosina s 2d If you are a fan of Mel Brooks, you need to watch this amazing look at the Genius who is Mel Brooks. If you aren't familiar with him or his work, you still need to watch it and learn about the man and the GREAT art he has created. See more Kenny G @Kennytheg 2d The documentary is fine. And the insights and tributes are touching. Particularly from Rob Reiner. It is just a bit slow and meandering at times. I was surprised to learn he was a difficult person to his family. I still love him dearly. He does owe a good but of his lasting fame to Gene Wilder and Madeline Kahn. Brooks' works are great nonetheless. American trasures. See more alan g @agenser 2d Not great enough for the very talented Mel Brooks, but very very good. Why Jerry Blowhard, Adam Shitheap, and Patton Who? are involved I don't know. They have no connection to Mel Brooks and couldn't hold his jock strap. See more Read all reviews
