No apologies - just noise. Five fierce women crank up the volume to get their voices heard.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Sally Wainwright strikes the right chord in this uproarious delight, including a gusty cast of Riot Women who fiercely showcase their right to rock, no matter their age.

This is a delicate thing, where if the balance isn't exactly right, the drama feels weightless and the comedy much too heavy. The great majority of the time throughout this excellent first season, Wainwright gets it just so. Go to Full Review

Wainwright is too curious about her characters to sketch them in their simplest terms. By the end of its first season, the series has expanded beyond its putting-on-a-show premise to map out a rich network of the women’s family and social relationships. Go to Full Review
Judy Berman TIME Magazine Jan 15
Another writer might have reduced the Riot Women to caricatures of small-town English naughtiness à la The Full Monty. But Wainwright never gives us the chance to perceive them as quaint, which would just be a form of objectification. Go to Full Review

Joanna Scanlan, Lorraine Ashbourne, and Rosalie Craig lead a stellar ensemble of "middle-aged" women whose characters’ arcs aren’t afraid of exploring the most challenging aspects of the human, and especially female, experience. Go to Full Review

Wainwright has proven before, for her, comedy and humor are simply a part of life; even if that life is sometimes terrifyingly tragic and lonely. Go to Full Review

I love this show. I love Joanna Scanlan, Rosalie Craig, Lorraine Ashbourne, and Tamsin Greig, and most of all, I love Sally Wainwright for cutting the sweetness with lemon and for understanding that joy is infinitely more satisfying when it's earned. Go to Full Review

Elle W 1d One of the best series I have seen in ages! It manages to be suspenseful, funny and poignant without being cringeworthy. Amazing cast and the songs are actually really good. Very much recommend to all. You don't have to be a menopausal woman to enjoy this. Just a decent human being who can understand the complications of being a woman of any age in today's world. See more Josh Y @Srebe 2d Of all the shows on all the streaming services, Britbox turns up the best show on TV. Go figure. Riveting, brilliantly written and acted, funny, sad, loving people, violent people, suspense, cliffhangers, heroes, villains, and some great music. And I can watch it with my wife who loves RW too; a rare thing indeed. Thank you. See more Robin D. @rlduvall Jan 25 Extremely well written. Accurate authentic, with real heart.
