It's really for fans of Crawford and melodramas (chick flicks). Of course, it's also an interesting look at 20's lifestyles of the rich and famous. See more 01/02/2014 Our Modern Maidens (1929) This is a great pre-code silent movie and one of three of Joan Crawford's famous "Flapper" series. So you know it's just a little over the top soap opera. She plays coquettish Billie Brown who is secretly engaged to Gill (Douglas Fairbanks Jr.). Billie is trying to get Gill an appointment as an American diplomat in Paris, and she seduces the influential Abbott (Rod La Rocque) who can get the job done. Gil is sort of feeling lonely and left out watching Billie put the moves on the older Abbott. Billie's girlfriend, the young, innocent Kentucky (Anita Page) is slowly falling for Gil. They have a little dalliance, but Gil still seems to love Billie. Abbott is in love with Billie too, but she keeps a sly distance from him. He soon finds out about Billie and Gil's engagement, and tells Billie off. For some reason Billie has some feelings for Abbott.
