I found it hypnotic but also devastating simultaneously. It looks at the human condition, the male condition, young male rage, behaviour, class and status and entitlement. Go to Full Review

The goal of any adaptation must be to send viewers to the book. The show will do that well enough with its lush directing, its precocious performances and its unsettling score, shifting from sweet, sunny strings to a jagged discordant fiddle. Go to Full Review

It may centre children, but this is, of course, far from a children's story – yet by the same token, it's a series made for the most enlightening kind of family viewing, from which all generations can really take something. Go to Full Review

If we want to experience Lord of the Flies as it is in its written form, Golding’s novel is there. If we want to experience it in a way that would only be possible on TV... we could do a lot worse than Thorne's daring and inventive adaptation. Go to Full Review

[David McKenna is] simply astonishing as the clever, witty, vulnerable and ultimately tragic Piggy... It’s hard to believe this kid had never acted before now. Go to Full Review

There is a real sense of innovation on display here, buoyed by the addition of a phenomenal soundtrack by Cristobal Tapia de Veer, and a haunting theme from Hans Zimmer and Kara Talve. Go to Full Review

max W @MaxWax 4d The acting of the young lads is superb. Some camera work is questionable (blurriness, color, and the length of some shots). Overall, a mini series worth watching. See more Chris W @RT35791556 Mar 14 Garbage—all style over substance. The director and cinematographer should be run out of the business for their incessant reliance on camera tricks and fish-eye lenses instead of simply shooting the action without ornamentation. This glorified music video is almost unwatchable... which is a shame because there are some talented kid actors here. The director should have gotten out of the way and let them do their job. See more William C @Crill22 Mar 14 I feel this is a must see movie for everyone. It's societal messages are applicable to nearly all societies, communities. Watching this child community diminish into tyranny and chaos shows how easily any government or social structure can collapse without checks and balances. See more david Y @RT13641442 Mar 12 There is a specific kind of heartbreak in watching a character try to maintain order while the world around them descends into chaos. In this latest Lord of the Flies, David McKenna doesn't just play Piggy; he embodies the very idea of fragile humanity. Most portrayals of Piggy focus on his "otherness," but McKenna brings a profound sense of dignity to the role. You don't just feel sorry for him; you respect him. He captures that painful transition from a boy who believes in the rules of the "adult world" to a person realizing those rules no longer exist. Every time he clutched those glasses, you could feel the weight of his isolation. It’s a masterclass in subtlety and vulnerability. See more Spielberg M. @Darth_Mack Mar 11 I read Lord of the Flies almost 40 years ago, and the story has stuck with me - I remember loving the 1963 black and white Peter Brook film that was faithful to the source material, and always wanted a new version. This adaptation is how I hoped it would be filmed with a modern day lens. Speaking of which the scope captured on the fisheye lens pulled you into the dense forest scape; and the color schemes added a unique quiet sense of terror brewing. A brilliant version!
