In the mid 1960s, suburban New York teenager Ron Kovic (Tom Cruise) enlists in the Marines, fulfilling what he sees as his patriotic duty. During his second tour in Vietnam, he accidentally kills a fellow soldier during a retreat and later becomes permanently paralyzed in battle. Returning home to an uncaring Veterans Administration bureaucracy and to people on both sides of the political divide who don't understand what he went through, Kovic becomes an impassioned critic of the war.

My brother was drafted during the Vietnam War. This film was a reminder of how frightened our family was, with all of the terrible risks involved. I think that Cruise deserved an Oscar for this role.

Tom Cruise in a career best performance as Ronnie Kovic the Vietnam veteran who was born on the Fourth Of July and joined the U.S Marines to go fight those Commies in Vietnam. A very hard to watch film that at times is quite stressful but Cruise goes from an eager young man rushing off to fight before being paralysed and returning to an America that no longer exists! 10/10.

Tom Cruise with a performance that makes the movie. It’s a film with its moments, and strong cohesion down to the smallest detail in service of its ultimate external goal; however, can only be so gripping for an audience because of its external nature. “I’m Finally home”

I normally try to avoid war movies but started watching this after all this time. Tom Cruise gave an unforgettable performance while grappling with the after effects of war. It was a hard watch for me because I hate violence and shows that make me anxious but I could not stop watching and it was worth the watch and I recommend it
