The narrative moves quickly, sometimes stretching the plot's plausibility, but Windsor is a worthy anchor as a young woman reappraising everything she believes about the wider world and her possible place in it. Go to Full Review

Unchosen could have been a strong drama about one woman’s attempts to break away from a religious community... But Unchosen heads into weak thriller territory, complete with a car chase and a silly kidnap. Go to Full Review

While strong performances and an eerie atmosphere keep it engaging, uneven pacing and predictable storytelling prevent it from reaching its full potential. Go to Full Review

Despite [its] obvious limitations, the series succeeds thanks to the performances. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

While its themes of personal freedom and resistance are clear, the storytelling doesn't always bring new depth to the "cult escape" tropes, instead relying on exploitation rather than nuance. Go to Full Review

John P @juanarto 1d Full of preposterous plot holes you could drive a proverbial truck through: an escaped prisoner on the run for double homicide and police check only once at the cult compound and never show any interest again, a deadly car accident with little police involvement and no investigation, Sam and then later his brother entering the community with almost no suspicion, and the ending is the coup de gras of preposterousness. Sure, Unchosen is watchable but be warned, you'll probably wish you'd done something better with the four hours it takes to sigh your way through this amature drivel. See more Edo R @RT45964899 1d The cult setting is a major missed opportunity. The community feels too vague and lacks psychological depth. The show presents control, but does not fully explore belief, dependence, routine, or why people remain trapped. The characters also feel underdeveloped. Rosie is more of a symbol of repression and awakening than a layered person. Adam could have been tragic and disturbing, but his contradictions are barely explored. Sam is meant to be mysterious and morally ambiguous, but often feels shaped only by the needs of the plot. The show also relies on unrealistic events: a deadly car accident with little police involvement, a risky "free night" that becomes a date night outside, and Sam’s brother entering the community with almost no suspicion. In a closed cult, suspicion of outsiders should be central. Ultimately, Unchosen is watchable but limited. It has strong themes, but leaves behind more plot than meaning. See more Cat J @LabradorLady 3d Fantastic acting. The lead actors were exceptional. What a treat! Thank YOU Molly Windsor, Fra Fe, Asa Butterfield, Siobhan Finneran, and Christopher Eccleston. I will remember these names in anticipation for more discoveries of their talent. GREAT CASTING! The insights into a cult: the difficulty in leaving, and the power of excommunication - were also really meaningful. Glued to my seat. See more Nat T @nat.98 4d Phenomenal performanse on everyone involved!!! See more Chie 1 @Chieallen 5d This is the most dispiriting collection of religious zealots one could imagine. None of them seems happy or joyous. They lie, they cheat on each other, the men force themselves upon their women, and their women live in fear of their men. Even their leader is a drunken sexual harasser. No wonder the protagonist wants to get out. But falling for the escaped convict seems as implausible as it is predictable in this unimaginative story. It was slow and plodding with the only intrigue being who would be next to sin. See more Paige K. @aowisp 6d This show surprised me! It takes more of a focus on a woman’s experience within cult society, power dynamics, sexuality, etc. The writing builds character moments, the actors have a wonderful performance, and the music choices are interesting! I would recommended it. One thing worth mentioning is that the pacing is built around human limitations, and realistic reactions. Not everything is resolved, but that feeds into the show’s own narrative. See more Read all reviews
