What to Know

Critics Consensus

Packed with grim, relentless set pieces and gleefully excessive gore, Dolly may not reinvent the slasher wheel, but it spins it with such chaotic energy that it becomes an unapologetically brutal celebration of horror's most unhinged extremes.

It is quite repellant, which in this case can be read as a compliment; it is what Blackhurst was going for, after all. Scratch the surface, however, and it’s less flattering, one predictable element among many in this utterly predictable film. Go to Full Review

Blackhurst gives it all a DIY feel and that further heightens the homespun, backwoods madness that ensues. Go to Full Review

It’s a bit of a snooze, but Therese is very good at channelling terror and distress; she really gets to go hog wild with those modes at the end in one long tribute to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Go to Full Review

With it’s grainy aesthetic and shaky-cam reliance, it looks and feels like an early-80s ‘video nasty’, writ large. Go to Full Review

Cycling through trope after trope without examination brings with it the baggage of horror’s thorny history... Dolly knows which notes to play, but a cover band can only fill so many seats. Go to Full Review

Too many horror movies nowadays attempt to recreate classics without really considering the context that made them special in the first place. Dolly is not shy about its influences, but at least it has the wherewithal and imagination to expand on them. Go to Full Review

JAMES C 6d Good story,a little too disturbing though! See more Eric G Mar 15 cool being shot on old school 16mm film, healthy gore. plot had some believability issues. Best scenes were in the trailer minus a cool beheading. See more Dakota J Mar 15 Good story line but I feel like the woman should have kept hitting her. she had too many chances....and every time, she chose to only hit her once. See more Juan Mar 11 This is one of those movies that shows the hidden value of a list. You can take risk baby. I should have waited for this to be on Shudder. It’s fine in the sense of movie. Like the people that worked it can find work after this it was a made well. For me the annoying part was the chapters. They were unnecessary because it picked where the movie was going anyway. I think chapters should be used when there’s a needs to tell the story out of order and it makes more sense to jump around timeline wise. Some chapters felt like 5 minutes. Maybe it was to go with the baby/toy theme I can see that. Once they passed chapter 5 it got old, See more Tommy D Mar 11 Great stuff. Dark and gory. See more Read all reviews
