In 1986, Park (Song Kang-ho) and Cho (Kim Roi-ha) were two simple-minded detectives assigned to a double murder investigation in a South Korean province. But when the murderer strikes several more times with the same pattern, the detectives realize that they are chasing the country's first documented serial killer. Relying on only their basic skills and tools, Park and Cho attempt to piece together the clues and solve the case in this thriller based on true events.

One of the great police procedurals, beloved by the A-list (Tarantino is a fan), this epic crime drama from the Parasite director Bong Joon-ho pulses with horrible authenticity. Go to Full Review

Tracing a long, frustrating, and at times darkly funny investigation into the crimes of a rural South Korean serial killer, Memories of Murder is a thrilling and stomach-churning ride. Go to Full Review

Keith B. @Okbullard 3d It's absolute garbage that was so slow and boring I couldn't believe it. The script seemed like something a 10 year old wrote. I don't understand the glowing reviews, I had to put it out of it's misery after 48 minutes. See more m B @RT24742035 5d Memories of Murder is simply an absolute masterpiece. A great film that manages to be at once a crime story, a deeply human narrative, and a social portrait, without ever feeling heavy-handed or didactic. A unique, powerful, and unforgettable work. Its strength lies above all in its tone: much like the finest Italian cinema of its golden age, it blends genres effortlessly. It brings to mind Il Gatto by Luigi Comencini, as well as Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion by Elio Petri, the latter also an Academy Award winner for Best Foreign Language Film, stories in which crime intertwines with comedy and a strong social dimension. This is no coincidence: Bong Joon-ho has a deep knowledge of Italian cinema and clearly absorbs its spirit. Just think of Parasite, which in some ways echoes the fierce and grotesque soul of Ugly, Dirty and Bad by Ettore Scola, in the way it portrays social inequality by blending tragedy, irony, and cruelty. See more Grant H. @dj530 Apr 27 A magnum opus from Korean mainstay Bong Jo Hoo, Memories Of Murder gives us the human impact of a community driven mad by violence, and the all too familiar feeling of leaving something unsolved. Impeccably acted, written, and directed, with a touch of satire to poke at a broken police system, this story stays with you well after the final gaze of Detective Park. See more Kyle M @RT77296778 Apr 4 Arguably Bong Joon Ho’s most definitive magnum opus in this exceptionally performed crime thriller nearly replicated Hitchcockian-type suspense with gripping humanity at its core towards a chilling conclusion that intentionally haunts. See more Nicolas T @Nikeo Mar 3 One of my favorite movies, I never tire to rewatch it. The rythm, the acting, the story, the images, nothing to throw away. Serious plot and story, yet with a lot of funny moments, even if it's culturally very Korean it transcends and relates to everyone (with a half functioning brain). See more Read all reviews
